Hi guys,
I recently bought this Chronosonic LED - it's great! In pretty good condition and the LED's are very bright though a bit on the small side.
I was just wondering if Chronosonic was basically a CompuChron by another name since the "CC" symbol is embossed on the case back and the clasp?

Chronsonic 100, Baylor, CompuChron, etc, etc, were produced by Unisonic. The CompuChron name was used the most. With the exception of CompuChron and possibly Chronosonic 100; Baylor and other names, that showed up on these watches, were actual watch companies that sourced some of their LED watch line from Unisonic. I've seen other Baylor watches, for example, that were not produced by them.

| Ed offered me one identical to this one back when I was buying my CompuChron. Very nice, though I'm more partial to stainless steel than gold plating. IIRC, this has the more common 29mm module compared to the more rare 25mm one like in mine. |

| A fun thing to mention about Compuchron is that some watches have it written CompuChron and some Compu Chron with a blank between the words. Some funny guys said Unisonic wasn't sure about it's own brand name. Compuchron was one of the very few brands under which green LED watches were issued, using the Sanyo module. Compuchron was used more often then Chronosonic, probably because back then the digital watches were still rather associated with computers then today, they obviously thought that would boost sales. |

Thanks for the info everyone. I have a Baylor too and Ed told me it was a 'relative' of CompuChron. Now I see how Chronosonic fits in the picture.
BTW Ford Guy, it's actually stainless steel. The lighting in the picture kind of gives it a golden hue, but it's not. 
fronzelneekburm - I'd love to get my hands on a green LED CompuChron (or Compu Chron) someday. I know they are very rare - are they as expensive as a green LED Pulsar? |

Jeff - I was reading your post again. So the Baylor, CompuChron, Chronosonic don't use a Hughes module?  I always thought they did.... |

Not really as CompuChrons don't attract the crazy Pulsar collectors. 
I think for a very good condition or mint green CC a reasonable price would be around 700 Euros, bit less for beaten up ones. I once sold a "slightly" defective green CC for 350 bucks, the button to set hours didnt work (So you always had to set minutes to "59" and wait for the hour to advance to set it).
I don't have another one in case you wanna ask for a trade, only the one i am currently wearing (It's actually my avatar).  |

Hughes Aircraft produced modules, not watches...With the exception of a couple of watches with the Hughes name. I guess Hughes were feeling left out, not having their own line of watches; instead of sourcing their modules to about 40% of the watch companies.
Unisonic manufactured the Compu Chron (or CompuChron) line and sourced modules from Hughes and then later Sanyo. Very few watch manufactures made their own modules.

Wow Jeff - 40% is huge share of the market. I read they made modules for a lot of different companies but I didn't realize it was THAT many. I guess Hughes electronics was very respected to have that many watch manufacturers buy their modules.
fonzelneekburm - I wouldn't dare to try to wrestle your one and only green LED CompuChron away from you....  |

40% is a little high. I should have put more like 30% but it never ceases to amaze me how many LED watches I've had over the years that had Hughes modules. Wittnauer, Gruen, Benrus, Bulova, Compuchron, no names, etc, etc. Almost all the major companies had them and many small ones too. With the exception of Pulsar (I tend to keep them off on their own), Hughes and NSC really cornerstoned the LED manufacturing market.
